THE MONTEREYS aka THE DEL ROYALS? aka THE MONTERAYS?

In 1961 when the Treble Chords (Of "Teresa" Fame) broke up two of its members Al Diaco and Ercote "Echo" Gaudioso joined Jay Ferrara and Anthony Biletto to form a new group as lead vocals they recruited Anthony "Jr" Vizzari and temporarily to Frank Raia and The Montereys were born.

In 1961 they attracted the attention of Lou Cicchetti of Cousins records who sent the group to Bruno-Dean Recording Studios where they recorded five songs "It's Much Better (To Make Her Love Me)", "Romeo & Juliet", "Playing The Game" "Lilly" and "Two Lovers".

In 1963 Vic Spina joined The Jaynells who recorded for Cameo, Diamond and Angela). Until 1964 they continued performing locally at record hops. During this period Lou Cicchetti used them on several sessions to back Chuck Harper and Guy Villari of the Regents plus Frank Lyndon of the Belmonts.

In 1963 Emil Sachs replaced Ercote Gaudioso who went into the army. Eventually the group broke up and only Al Diaco continued in the music business as Al Romeo.

The CD above lists this group as "The Monterays" y "The Del Royals"but as you can see on the 45rpm acetates the group is listed as "The Montereys".
