New York, 1960 the sound in the streets was Doo Wop and a group of young people decided to form a group under the name of Pretenders, Johnny Hanrahan (Lead Vocalist), Billy Thompson (2nd Tenor/baritone), Freddy Comas (1st Tenor) and Mike Skoran (Bass). Mike left the group early on and was replaced by Ralph Sabatino. They practiced a lot in many streets of New York and in 1961 they were hired by the Rome records label where they recorded many songs "Guardian Angel, The Seven Teens, She's Gone, Teenager's Dream"... finally the record label published their songs for them " Smile" / "I'm So Happy" on their subsidiary label, Power-Martin records, the A side was very popular and the group won a Murray the K radio station week-night contest, though the song was quickly copied by other artists. and that made the group lose popularity.
