Brian Garfield, an award-winning novelist whose “Death Wish” launched a film franchise starring Charles Bronson as a middle-aged, formerly mild-mannered professional who transforms into a right-wing vigilante, died Dec. 29 at his home in Pasadena, Calif. He was 79.

In his younger years he was the lead singer and The Casuals and The Palisades at the University of Arizona a five-man vocal & instrumental group consisting of Brian (he plays either bass or lead guitar), Jim Fleming, Larry Knechtel, Dick Gabriel and John Armstrong. They have a contract with Calico and Recorded in 1960 "I Can't Quit / Close Your Eyes" A side was a top-40 hit and they appeared on “American Bandstand” and other programs.
