White group from Boston originally known as The 3 G's formed in the early 60's by the Gates brothers, Alan, Eddie (Lead) and Ron after adding Jim Roberson (Bass) they were The 4 G's they practiced a cappella as long as possible even when they were with their girlfriends, very soon they added a new member second tenor, Angelo Vecchi and of course The Five G's were born.
Ron Gates had written several songs and the group practiced with them and participated in many events and achieved some local popularity, but they realized that singing a cappella would not achieve a recording so they decided to add a band to the group and recruited McKinnon on bass guitar. Don Saulnier on rhythm guitar and Mike Davis on drums.
In 1964 they had the opportunity to record Ron's songs, "Forget Her / I Think I Know" made on the Washingtonian record label and although these recordings had some regional success they failed to enter the national charts. The group in the 90's had a brief revival reunion.
