L to R; Tom Luxmore, Bud Watters, Jeff Remington & Gordie Mandot.
Article appeared in 1958 in the Akron Beacon Journal.
This white group from Akron in Ohio began its journey when Gordie Mandat and Tom Luxmore came out winners in a young talent contest held in the city of Copley, Summit County, west of the City of Akron where they met Bud Watters and Jeff Remington and the four decided to form a vocal group, they contacted a local musician, Kenny Wade who had many songs written, the group recorded some of them at the Akron Recording studios and with those songs and Kenny as their manager they went to New York, in that city they contacted with Allen Stanton of Sheldon Publishing Co. who sent them to Coral and RCA records for auditions.
The group returned to their city when after a few days they received a call from their manager who gave them the good news that they would record for RCA records.
In 1958 the group recorded the songs ""Don't Tarry Little Mary" / "When The School Bell Rings" under the name of The Magnets, the record was popular in late 1958 in the Ohio area and the group had several performances. in different concerts later nothing more was heard from them.
In 1965 RCA released another recording by a group called the Magnets (see in this blog), but it bears no relation to the group described here.
