THE APPARITIONS_Autumn Leaves

Acappella group from New York City consisted of Joe Sudol(Lead),Owen O'shaughnessy(1st Tenor),Les Weyant(2nd Tenor),Carl Ambrosano(Baritone) and Bill Roche(Bass).
From 1965 to 1967 recorded a total of seven songs for Relic Records.

THE IMPALAS (Cub Records)

Interracial group from Brooklyn consisted of the black lead singer Joe"Speedo" Frazier and the white members Lenny Renda(2nd Tenor),Richard Wagner(Baritone) and Tony Carlucci(1st Tenor).they took their name from the Chevy Impala car.


They began practicing in the back room of a carnise when in 1958 have the opportunity of record one single for Hamilton Records_First Date/I Was A Fool.but without any success.


In 1959 an introduction to Alan Freed led the group to an audition with MGM and one record was released in the subsidiary label Cub Records__Sorry(I Ran All The Way Home)/Fool Fool Fool. the A side written by Artie Zwirm and Aristedes Giosasi(Of Gino & Gina fame) charting at #2 in the Billboard list and moved the group to live & TV perfomances at the Ed Sullivan and Dick Clark shows.

In 1959 and 1960 the group recorded other three singles for Cub Records with their best chart #86 in the summer of 1959 with the tune_Oh What A Fool.their last single was issued as by Speedo & The Impalas.


With the poor success of the last singles of The Impalas Cub stop another future recordings of the group this are innactive for a long time when in 1966 Red Boy Records released one single of the group but with a modern sound.


In 1959 cub Records released an Impala's complete album The Impalas "Sorry(I Ran All The Way Home).with the songs_Sorry/Sandy Went Away/Woodchuck Song/Fool Fool Fool/She Belongs To Me/Cupid/Oh What A Fool/The Loves We Share /Chum/All But The Memory Of You/Mommy-O/Too Much Too Soon.


Followed with an EP with four songs from these album (above picture).

THE ROCKY FELLERS_Little Darlin

This group/band consist of a father Doroteo"Moro"Maligmat and his four sons; Eddie, Albert,Tony and Junior Maligmat originally from Manila,Philippines.

Above left to right;Junior,Tony,Doroteo,Albert and Eddie.

Their top single hit_Killer Joe. reached the number 16 spot on the Billboard Top 100 in April 1963.

The Rocky Fellers were discovered by Stanley Kahn and signed to Scepter Records where recorded several singles in 1962 and 1963 as well as a complete album.

Their rendition of the Gladiolas/Diamon's classic_Littel Darlin. is a 1963 unreleased tune.

THE ZIRKONS_Here In My Heart

This Bronx, New York group was one of the most popular acappella groups of the mid 60's.with many personal changes the classic formation consisted of Mario Ibañez(Lead),Carlos Infante(Baritone),Leo Perez(1st tenor),Robert McInerny(2nd Tenor) and Barry Zakar(Bass).

From 1964 to 1967 recorded several 45's and are present in numerous Acappella albums.in 1968 recorded their own album on Snowflake Records.

TONY & THE TWILIGHTERS_The Key To My Heart

After of their recording with Tony & The Dynamics on Herald Records(see in this blog) Tony Maresco leave the group and with Anthony Barbella,Michael Bongiorno, and Bernard Mastragostino form Tony & The Twilighters(or Twiliters) and in the summer of 1960 recorded on the Philadelphia based label Red Top Records (owened by Doc Bagby,Irving Nahan and Mel"Red Top" Schwartz) the sides_Yes Or No/The Key To My Heart.

Frank Lara (bass),Joe Miranda (baritone), Eddie Calderon (1st tenor), Frankie Calderon (Lead/2nd tenor), Eddie Almodóvar (Lead/1st/2nd tenor) and Julio Angel Acevedo (1/2nd tenor & Lead).

This group was a Puerto Rican vocal group who backed up Frankie Avalon when he appeared at La Concha Hotel.they also back up to Neil Sedaka(see above picture),Lenny Welch and other artists on their Puerto Rico tours.the group singing on many TV shows but never recorded.

THE CAPRIS aka THE CHIMES

In 1958 in Brooklyn Lenny Cocco,Pat Deprisco,Pat McGuire,Michael Avis and Tex ? were know as The Capris they recorded six acappella demos songs_Pretty Baby/Over The Rainbow/Dance Girl Dance/Crazy Doll/Angel Love. and_The Girl That I Love.

Unafortunely these songs never were released and soon Mike and Tex leave the group and were replaced by Joe Croce and Rich Mercado they changed their group name to The Chimes(see in this blog) signed with Tag Records and reached #11 in late 1960 with their tune_Once in Awhile.

Unrecorded group from Brooklyn consisted originally by John Searing,Sandy Anzalone,Arlene Pisciotta,John Gilleeny and John Sescila.(after Arlene and John Gilleeny left Ralp Rega joined as a new member).

In 1960 recorded a few of demos songs as_Winner Take All/A Thousand Miles Away. or_You Belong To Me.

This last tune later recorded by Arlene's cousin Joey and their group The Duprees(see in this blog).

LIL' RAY & THE MIDNIGHTERS_Loretta

Ramon “Little Ray” Jimenez started his singing career in late 50’s in the Scockton-Bakersfielld area in Los Angeles. In 1960 signed with Dore Records where released his first single _There Is Something On Your Mind.

Moved to Impact Records in 1964 recorded the oriented doo wop single _My Girl/Loretta. As Li’l Ray & The Midnighters. This was a East L.A. band with the Cevallos brothers and Bobby Cochran(Newphew of Rock & Roll star Eddie Cochran).

THE REV-LONS_Boy Trouble

The Rev-lons were a trio "Girl Group" of sisters from the 1960's. They live in Bakersfield California. and consisted ofFrances Hernandez (Crane), Rachel Hernandez (Dela Rosa) & Lupe Hernandez (Gaona).Gary Paxton was their producer.

They recorded in 1962-64 for Garpax and Reprise Records.

In 1962 the trio recorded _Boy Trouble. released nationally on the London label. This song got on the national charts, but not big.

HELP with...THE GALLEONS


In the labor day of 1958 on the Catalina Island in San Francisco five friends; Robert Cotterell,Merlyn Nelson,Lew Parsons Jr. and Joe Sershan started singing together for fun and as liked their sound decided form a vocal group in their university.


Ruth Stratchbomeo discover the group during a perfomance in one UCLA sprig sing event and became their manager, this send the guys to Art Laboe of Original Sound Records where recorded two songs with Jackie Kelso’s band_I Played The Fool(Written By Cotterell,Nelson and Parsons Jr. But later Stratchbomeo add his name)/Pick up(writters as A Side).

ANYONE HAVE THESE TWO SIDES???.

Finally the sides were released in 1959 on the Pasadena Vita label. Without success the guys graduate and the group disbanded, Cotterell started his christian label,Sonrise Records as well as Buillt Creative Sound, a CD duplication company.

In South Philly in early 1957 Ernie Funaro (1st Tenor), Anthony Perri (Baritone), John Donato (2nd Tenor) and the 13 year old Lead Anthony Maresco were know as Tony & The Teens.


They went into a local studio and recorded several demos as_Zoom / In The Still Of The Night / Gee, But I'd Give The World or the Jimmy Castor / Frankie Lymom tune_I Promise To Remember.
