1961 in Brooklyn Donnie"Barto"Bartolomeo and his cousins Al and Santo Barbariano formed the vocal group Donnie & The Del Chords.
In 1961 recorded their first single for Taurus Records_When You're Alone/So Lonely. and have a regional hit with the A side.this song won WABC's Bruce "Cousin Brucee")Morrow's contest for best new artist release. The single was released by Epic Records for national distribution.

The Dallas Boys were one of the britain's first white vocal groups,they are from Leicester and consisted of Stan Jones,Bob Wragg,Leon Fisk ,Joe Smit and Nicky Clarke.
They recorded several singles with a pop-doowop sound and were regulars on TV shows as Six Five Special or Oh Boy!.
This interracial band from Kansas;Rodney Lay Jr.,Bob York,Bob "Sir Robert" Scott , Pete "Peaches" Williams and Don Downing is present in the doo wop guides with their 1961 Dore release_Snow White/Tell Me Baby.
The story of this group started in 1956 in the Scranton high school in Pennsylvania where Dick Plotkin form part of the vocal group Dick & The Halos. In 1957 they recorded at audiosonics studios brill building NY. the sides_NearYou (Oh I Want To Be)/I Found Love. 100-45's copies were made by Dick new label Debra Records for the purpose of promoting the group with local jukebox operators.

By the early 1959 The Halos were broke up but Dick joined with The Supremes;Mike Lanzo,Don Manzo,Ted Santos and Ken Marsh and the new DICK & THE HALOS group was born.this formation practiced everynight for several months and recorded demos songs as_Sweet Dreams.
In the early 1960 Dick & The Halos auditioned with Jim Gribble manager of The Mystics and The Passions,he contracted the group for a six months but Jim never recorded the group and this met up with Nick Quasito former singer of The Colts and manager of The Teenagers.Nick change the group name to THE PRECISIONS and in 1962 the guys recorded for Strand Records the sides_Dream On/You Can't Play Games. without any success.

In 1962 the group recorded on Debra Records the sides_Sweet Dreams/Stop Leading Me On. in this record session Little Anthony & The Imperials helpin with the vocal background.In 1963 recorded the Monotone's tune_You'll Never Love Me. under the title of_Chapell Bells. but Debra only released 100-DJ copies under the group name of THE PALISADES.the side have a great DJ demmand and the label re-recorded the song(in this time with Bells) and re-released the single with the B side_She Can't Stop Dancing. but under the group name of THE MAGICS.

Group from Brooklyn started in 1958 and finally formed by Larry Kassman(Lead),Richie Schwartz(1st Tenor),Lew Arno(2nd Tenor) and Murray Hirshkowitz(Baritone).they took their name from one of their demo songs_Quotations Of Love.
In 1959 the group paid for studuio time to cut some demos and know to Helen Miller a songwriter who worked for Don Kirshner,Miller was soon the manager of The Quotations and send the group to Jack Covais of Tin Pan Alley label for an audition but unafortunely Jack not signed the group.
The original Quotations(clockwise from top);Lew Arno,Richie Schwartz,Larry Kassman and Harvey Hirshkowitz.
In early 1961 The Marcels #1 hit_Blue Moon. gave The Quotations idea about one standart song revised in an uptempo style and_Imagination. was born.the group signed with MGM Records and recorded in November 1961 the song with the B side_Ala-Men-Sy. in the subsidiary label Verve Records.

The song was a local hit and charted #70 nationally and move to the group to great live & TV perfomances.
The next recording of the group in the early 1962 contain another chestnut_This Love Of Mine. with the B side_We'll Reach Heaven Together. written by Helen Miller,without success with this single for their third release the group recorded The Tempo's tune_See You In September. and an original side_Summertime Goodbyes. inspired in The Safari's Tune_Image Of A Girl. this record was issued in the end of August and these summer songs received poor airplay because the season was just about over.

After this recording Lew Arno left the group and was replaced by Sandy Sonner and they recorded in 1964 several acappella sides for Relic Records and finally the group broke up.

Mike Regal was the lead singer of Bobby Roy & The Chord-A-Roys(see in this blog) and The Romeos who recorded the answer song to the classic Tokens tune_The Lion Sleep Tonight.
Two brothers from San Mateo in California Larry Dean and Bobby Black(know as The Black Brothers) were two country singers(Bobby played steel guitar and Larry the guitar Lead) present in the doo wop guides as THE TIDES...

They recorded their first single in 1961 for RCA _Again/The Boy Most Likely.

Knauss and Bricker were white.
In early 1961 charted number 1 in the Billboard list with their first Colpix Recording_Blue Moon.

In September colpix released another single of the group_You are My Sunshine/Find Another Fool.without success this is the last recording of the original group.
The original Marcels had cut three singles and one LP for Colpix Records by the fall of 1961 six months after their original chart triumph,the group had reorganized and for their next recording_Heartaches. the group was all black.
