THE SAINTS.../...THE GENTS

White vocal group from Houston, Texas that started in 1955 as The Velvetones (Below Picture) by students Tony Montalbano and Ronnie Kemp when this group broke up Tony and Ronnie recruited Johnny Smith and other singers and performed under the name The Saints.

Over the years and due to the studies the Saints have made some changes with the addition of Glenn Carlin as first tenor and Julian Barnett as featured vocalist and guitar player. Two of the Saints are University students. Montalbano is a senior geology and business major and Smith is a mechanical engineering.

In late 1956 songwriter, singer, composer, author, arranger and producer, best known for his 1957 song "My Special Angel", a #1 country/western hit for Bobby Helms, Jimmy Ducan signed the group to his Cue records label. and they recorded...

-Turtle Dove / Take Me Back. Cue records-1957.

-Honky Tonk Baby / Ain't Cha Ever Comin' Home. Cue records-1958.

LISTEN ...

They have a classic pop and Rock & Roll white sound from the mid-50s and with the appearance of the harmonic doo wop sound the group lost strength and very soon disappeared, In 1962 Tony A. Montalbano and Ronnie Kemp are part of a new group, The Gents. The group recorded two compositions by Tony, "Golly Golly Dolly" / "It's Too Late To Cry" released by All Boy Records.
