The band was born at a farewell party for the year when the singers Frank Sole (Tenor), Morris Amato (Bass) both of Wood-Ridge and Richard Novello (2nd Tenor) of Hasbrouck Heights met, they decided to form a vocal group and with the Help from Richard's brother, Robert Novello who had an instrumental band was added to Jerry Swede and Thomas Malin of Hasbrouck Heights, who played Guitar, and Robert on the drums and Robert himself as instrumental support.
The name of the group, The Catalina Six was chosen for the model of car that one of them had and was used in a publicity photo of the group.
His best recording was "Moon 2,000" / "Would You Believe It" which was rated three stars in Billboard magazine and was widely syndicated by local disc jokeys.
